2024 was a complete success with 10 wins & a 9-3 finish after a 1-4 start where the early heavily injured o-line stunted QB Stafford's mid-range stats. They pounded the Vikings 27-9 in the playoffs before being 21 yards short of upsetting the Champ Eagles. Star WR Nacua (#2 in YPG) gets a partner upgrade with F/A Adams (#9 in YPG). Improving on the league's 31st rush YPA would help. FTN has both their o-line & d-line ranked #5. It's hard to repeat Philly, so we love this teams' odds: NFC 11-1, Super Bowl 22-1 & exact Super Bowl finalists with Buffalo 53-1.

What does QB Purdy have to do to get credit? ...#7 in QBR & 6th YPG after being #1 & #2 in '23. WR Aiyuk didn't live up to his new contract but Jennings & Pearsall are quality with Samuel departing. McCaffrey is back off injury. The offense will be fine if the retooled o-line tanking at #23 by FTN holds up. The 49ers lost half of their 24 free agents, mostly on defense, which hurts. But well coached and boasting the easiest schedule I wouldn't sleep on them - regressed, but a tough out.

Improvement to 8 wins '24 after two 4-13 disasters. The Cards underrated run game was #2 in YPC & 7th in YPG. Murray's passing is efficient at 11th in yards passing with the 9th best Adj QBR. Stud WR Harrison started slow but heated up. Their 19th ranked D (B/R) for '25 plays hard for Coach Gannon & adds elite pass rusher Sweat to bolster a weakness & #1 pick DT Nolen in a 6-defensive player draft we graded 'B-' after a 'B+' graded F/A haul.  The defense rose from 32nd in '23 to 15th in '24 and should get better. We like the progress of this team.

2025 Power Rank: 23rd    2024 DVOA: 18th    2025 Schedule: 13th

Coach Macdonald outperformed in his rookie season at 10-7, masked by their bland +7 points +/-. Their final total DVOA rank was 18th. QB Smith regressed from '23 & was shipped to Vegas. We are negative on Darnold who leaves a top talent offense to a very weak o-line PFF now ranks 30th where 1st round FCS G Zabel should struggle. And high pressure is Darnold's top weakness. Tack on WR Metcalf's departure. The defense was 11th in '24 & PFF sees them a respectable 12th with front-7 studs Reed, Williams & Lawrence. A high end secondary won't save them from the basement in the competitive NFC West.
